There are a lot of things to unpack when it comes to creating drums, including preventative measures like learning how to record an instrument part that’s on time in the first place. There are a few other techniques you can use as well.

So what’s the best way to approach the Garageband Drummer?ġ) Use the command, (⌥ + ⌘ + U), to bring up the drummer track.Ģ) Choose a drummer, a sound, and then pick a beat preset that goes with your song.ģ) Adjust the dynamics with the X/Y pad in the Drummer Editor. Garageband’s drummer track is a nice introduction to this world, however, not everyone knows how to use it. Nearly all of us have listened to a recording with programmed drums without even realizing it. Layering with X-Eight Lite is awesome though, lot's of nice top-end sounds you can use to mix with your other subs.Programming drums is often one of the hardest aspects of music production simply because it requires a nuanced skill-set that usually only drummers have. For that reason, drum plug-ins, samplers, and loops have become exceedingly popular over the years. Most of them sound off-balance and need some tinkering to get into place properly. X-Eight looks awesome, but we were slightly disappointed with the sounds, when first checking it out. That being said, there are some sounds that are real winners, but the most luck you'll have with X-Eight will be layering. The sounds of X-Eight can tend to be either too large, or not subby enough. You don't get too much fine control, but to make up for it the X-Eight has some interesting sounds to work with when doing sound design. You get control over the glide, attack and release, as well as a high pass filter, and a master volume for your plugin. X-Eight Lite is the free version of X-Eight and while comparatively small, it still comes with a solid 80 sounds. We like XSub 808, it's not what we usually go to for our 808 needs, but can help as a top layer to a bass, providing an awesome, distorted top end.Īll in all, a solid plugin, and a good pick up for a beginner producer. That being said, most of the sounds tend to be rougher and more distorted, so if you're looking for absolute clean subs and bass sounds, this might not be for you. On top of all this, you also get a pitch-modulating LFO, to get some wobble into your bass. Not that you'd be using the reverb all that often, but hey, it's there.
