It’s OK, but does get a bit so-so after the 20th battle. If you’re looking to battle your mates, there are set arenas within the game where you can throw down the gauntlet for a few rounds. It’s fast, frantic and a lot of fun as you blast hordes of enemies across the roguelite level set up, always looking for newer more powerful weapons – which you level up so you can unlock them from the start of your next run. This is before jumping into the game in a somewhat Tron-style, which will see you and 3 other mates have to blast everything that moves across a number of different themed worlds accumulating points unlocking one of the four main boss fights defeating them completing the run and having to do it all over again.

As well as taking on a number of challenges from different gangs that will bag you more XP, tickets and cooler kit. You start in a hub world where you can customise your loadout and character as you see fit. In my defence it was to get to the action and that’s one thing Arcadegeddon has in buckets. This is a shame, as you can tell someone has tried to craft a fun tale, but I ended up skipping it every time someone opened their mouths. But even with this being front and centre, it just got in the way of the gameplay. That sees Gilly trying to save his much loved arcade from a super corporation called FunFUNco, who have infected his latest game with a virus and it’s up to you to help him get rid of it and stop FunFUNco from closing him down. There is a tale at its core that it tries EXTREMELY hard to make you care about it, but it just doesn’t stick… well for me at least. Developed by IllFonic, this is a cooperative multiplayer game with a fun mix of PVE and PVP and a super addictive gameplay loop, which has a real boss rush vibe to it at times.

I have said it before and I will say it again: it’s often the games that come out of nowhere that grab you the hardest, and Arcadegeddon is most definitely one of those titles (even though it’s been out on PC for around a year already) as I knew absolutely nothing about it… but after playing it, I can’t put it down.
